A local college student, who wishes to remain anonymous, speaks about her own sexual abuse and the signs she feels her mother or other adults should have seen as red flags. She hopes to bring awareness to other families who might not understand what might be happening to their child behind closed doors.

According to a 2008 study, over 99% of women say they have experienced street harassment. Simply ask any woman you meet if she has ever experienced unwanted attention from a man on the street. This could include whistling, kissing noises, excessive staring, making sexist comments or vulgar gestures. You might be surprised at how frequently it happens.
