Day 41: Cinnamon, Vanilla Dalgona (Whipped) Coffee | Jenn Terrell, Photographer

Uplift Blog Series: I wanted to help be a part of online positivity in the wake of the coronavirus and social distancing measures. I have had the honor of working with some amazing people who have such interesting and uplifting stories. ❤️I think now is the perfect time to share some of those. Education is also great to share during times like these so there will be educational posts occasionally. At first, I was going to put everything into one post but I think each person and topic deserves their own post and it will give me something to look forward to sharing with the world each day.

DAY 41

I am a coffee fanatic so the Dalgona coffee trend was right up my alley. Plus I think we could all use something fun to keep us busy for a minute or so. I have made Dalgona coffee several different ways and posted in my instagram stories a ton about this.

I used to be one of those people who went to the coffee shop Every. Single. Day. before the pandemic began. That was how I splurged on myself. It made me feel good to walk to the coffeeshop each morning, say hello to the barista, and then try whichever coffee drink I could think up in my head that day. While I was living in New York, coffee shops saved me. They gave me a sense of community and often an oat milk iced latte was my breakfast for the day. I have worked in about six coffee shops over the years so I really love the coffee shop culture.

During the pandemic, my coffee drinking has come to a big halt. My caffeine tolerance is even way down. haha I get a little shakey now when I drink the Dalgona coffee.

The original recipe for Dalgona coffee is one part instant coffee, one part sugar, and one part boiling water. I used two tablespoons of each. If you have an electric mixer it reeeeeallly helps. I only had a whisk. I whisked it all together while watching tv so probably for about 10-15 minutes. Then I put almond milk and ice in a glass. I prefer iced but if you prefer hot you can boil the milk and use that. Then I put the whipped coffee on top of the milk and it floated beautifully. I tried the whipped coffee this way and it was way too sweet for me. I even tried mixing the whipped coffee with the milk and it was still way too sweet so I experimented and made my own concoction. See below. :)

Just look at that creamy deliciousness 😍

Jenn’s Version of Dalgona Coffee with Cinnamon and Vanilla

-2 tablespoons instant coffee
-3 teaspoons sugar
-2 teaspoons cinnamon
-1 teaspoon vanilla
-2 tablespoons boiling water
-A glass of whichever milk you prefer (I used unsweetened almond milk) (Put over iced if you prefer cold, boil the milk if you prefer hot)

Put everything but the milk in a bowl and mix it together with a whisk or electric mixer if you have one. I had to hand whisk mine for around 10 minutes. Then once it is nice and fluffy, spoon it onto the top of your glass of milk. Get a nice photo , then mix it all together and enjoy.
